Catherine Cashmore and Fred Harrison discuss the property cycle
28/06/2022
I reached out to Fred Harrison a few days ago to discuss the cycle.
We debate, among other things, if there’s any likelihood of an early peak.
It’s the question I’ve been asked most often in recent weeks.
I think you’ll find the interview enlightening and helpful in gaining a deeper understanding of the cycle and drivers behind it as we move forward.
Most readers will already be familiar with Fred’s work.
He is without doubt, one of the most successful economic forecasters of our time.
Fred predicted the recession of 1991 — eight years before it happened.
He predicted the crash of 2008 in 1997!
That was 11 years before it happened.
He wrote in his book The Chaos Makers:
"By 2007 Britain and most of the other industrially advanced economies will be in the throes of frenzied activity in the land market…land prices will be near their 18-year peak…on the verge of the collapse that will presage the global depression of 2010.’
In 2015, he was forecasting a ‘mid-cycle crash’ for 2019–20."
His track record is unsurpassed.
In addition, he has conducted a vast amount of research into economic cycles to highlight the cause and, therefore, the ultimate cure to the boom/bust pattern.
It’s this information you need to master if you really want to advantage from the knowledge we share in Cycles, Trends & Forecasts.
We discussed a range of topics during our conversation. Including forecasts of a world war at the culmination of this cycle.
